Dr. Seuss Writing Activity

What a fun week for Dr. Seuss! We tried Green Eggs and Ham. We read lots of Dr. Seuss Books. We made our own One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish book. We created Dr. Seuss with our buddies and decided what we would do if Dr. Seuss showed up at our house or school. Finally to end the week we did our journal on our favorite Dr. Seuss book. I am so proud of some of my friends that are trying to sound out their words to make their writing match their pictures!

Read to Someone

Since Christmas break we have been learning a new part of Daily 5~Read to Someone. It took a lot of practice but they are definitely getting the hang of it. They love EEKK! Today we were able to put all three parts of Daily 5 in motion for 7 WHOLE MINUTES! I am so proud of these kiddos check it out!

Happy Groundhogs Day!

Groundhogs Day has come and gone, and looks like winter is no where near over!  We did a Groundhog project in 4K. We made the groundhog and then drew pictures of what winter looks like and what spring looks like. We then had to highlight which one was true based on the Groundhogs prediction!

Martin Luther King

Wow I have not posted in a long time. I will try to catch you up on what we have been up to in 4K. We have had some extreme cold weather which is making teaching a little crazy!

For Martin Luther King we talked a lot about how Martin might of felt. One way to show the kids how this feels is through a coloring activity. I gave half of the class black paper and black crayons. The other half got white paper with black crayons. The students were instructed to draw me a detailed picture. They were not allowed to talk. After a few minutes I gathered all the students at group and we talked about how they felt. Some students talked about how they were frustrated because they could not see their pictures but their friends were drawing nice pictures. I then tied in, how this is how Martin Luther King felt. We played out other scenarios to help the children understand Martin Luther King's life a little better. ( for example, I told them that today only half of the class would get to play outside and the other half had to rest. It was so cute, one little boy said but Mrs. Post that is not fair to the friends that have to stay in and rest, that is when I knew they were starting to understand!) It was a lot of fun!

We also talked about Martin's dream. We then brainstormed many ways we could have a dream like Martin Luther King to help people. We then wrote about those dreams.

Name Writing

This week during our stations we are focusing on correctly writing the letters in our name. This activity has them counting the letters in their name, arranging the letters in their name in order and then writing them the correct way. It is a great way to differentiate and meet all ability levels in the classroom. Here are a few examples.
